What I have learnt in Bel 311.

Assalammualaikum.

Hye! Actually, I want to share with you all about what I have learnt in class bel 311 since early semester until now. Seriously, this semester I feel very packed and busy, a lot of assignment need to be done and i'm really tired. The best part is this semester is the last semester for us to learn Bel. No more class Bel after this. Ho yeahh ! I'm happy.

 I think I still need to learn english after this because I think english is very important nowadays. Frankly speaking, I love to learn english but I hate writing. I don't know why, but writing is totally make me migraine. It's not easy to write okay. I'm better choose speaking rather than writing  

I have gain a lot of knowledge from Bel 311. More specific and more detail about Bel 311. Its more tough than Bel 260 and I think most of it is about WRITING. But now I know how to make a better references, introduction, in-text citation and so on. Although, this semester is miserable we still get learn a new things. Thank you to Miss zu for taught us and really sorry if we are make you dissapointed during the class.

Argumentative essay.

Assalammualaikum.

Today we are learnt about argumentative essay. Miss Zu said argumentative essay is a famous, maybe it will come out during final. I think Argumentative essay quite difficult compare to other essay. I'm sure I will do better for compare-contrast essay because that is my essay. Insya allah :) 

Then, Miss zu gave us a task to do. As usual we need to do essay but this time individual. The title is 'women are becoming bolder as well as more aggressive and men are more sensitive'. huh essay again and I don't like it especially argumentative essay. ok guys bye !

Peer-editing.

Assalammualaikum.

Today we are going to do peer-editing. But, there are still other group that are not fnished with the self-editing. Miss zu give us time to finished our job. Then, we need to change our draft essay with other group. Definitely, my group can only changed with Izat group because both of us doing this type of essay.

While waiting for Izat group finished their editing, Diba and I showed our references to Miss zu and she said our references is good. Alhamdulilah :) I think my work are going smoothly. Diba is my best partner and easy to cooperate. Then, we are doing peer-editing for Izat draft essay. Truthly speaking, I can't understand very well their essay. Their topics is interesting but they not elaborate the point correctly and accurately. 

That's from my opinion but I don't know If I'm right. The bad things is we need to give mark to them. It's really hard to give mark because I'm also not good in doing my essay. But, we still need to give mark and I  followed based on the rubric that Miss zu gave us. Although, I don't like to do all this kind of things but i still learnt something. We need to do work properly, detail and learnt from mistakes to improved ourselves.

Self-editing.

Monday (4/3/13)

Assalammualaikum.

Today we still proceed forum for the last group, which is Sara's group. If I'm not mistaken they talk about plastic bags. I get a new knowledge from what they are discussing. It's true that plastic bags that we are used can only be disposable after 40 years. So, not use of plastic bags on Saturday is a good ideas to overcome this problem.

Actually, today we are going to do self-editing and Miss zu also checked our references. After finished with the draft essay we need to do self-editing. I don't like to do this thing because it was very fussy. We need to change here and there. Thank god that Diba and I was doing the draft properly, so we don't have much work to do. Hihihi That's all kbye :)

Forum in the class.

Assalammualaikum

Today we were doing forum. The first group is Izany and I think their group is not bad. We enjoy laughing today. Haha this is because we can see our friends talk infront of people. Then, my group present. But, Kima was absent today. So, I will talk about her points. I'm the host of this forum and we name this show is " Eika Talk Show". We played our role, Ita as the citizen of Malaysian, Wawa as the Health specialist and Nawi as the Municipal officer.

I think today our class very relax and we had so much fun. We snap a lot of pictures. For me the best host is Fikri because he is very funny and good in speaking. Whereas, the best panel is Faiz Adha the rappers in the class. For the best group I don't know which group I should choose because all of us tried to do the best. Group 6 will present next week because not enough time. Okay let's check it out the pictures !

Assalammualaikum.

Hye friends ! Today we are going to do Forum! Huh I feel nervous, that means we need to do speaking. Haha of course we need to speak. But, before start with the forum, Miss zu was explained to us how to make references for our draft essay. She explained to us more detailed with an example. We just need to follow exactly in the textbook.

We need to put all our material. At least 5 references. Miss zu want us to do it during weekend. I'm sure all of my friend are going very busy because instead of Bel we have another assignment for other subject. 

After that, we do forum. Miss zu was divided us into 5 group. I'm group number 2 and my member is Ita, Nawi, Wawa and Kima. Our title is about the cleanliness and good maintenance of public amenities. We need to discuss about the causes and how to solve this problem. Miss zu give us time to discuss and each person in our group must have a role. 

Miss zu said we are going to proceed the forum tomorrow because we don't have much time. Then, class dismissed. Let's wait and see for the forum tomorrow. Kbye :)

commenting and problem-solution essay.

Assalammualaikum.

Today we brought our laptop to the class because Miss zu want to check our draft essay. She want us to do peer editing. We need to change our essay with other group. For compare-contrast essay only Izat and I doing the essay. So, we need to change with each other. Unfortunately, Wasim didn't come to the class and Izat don't have the soft copy for his essay.

So, I  give Izat my soft copy of essay so that he can do commenting. While waiting for Izat commenting on our essay, Diba and I do the online quizes. That's all we do for today. But we have replacement class tonight. We will write an essay again. Huh !

At night class, we are doing problem solution essay. As usual Miss zu will explained more detailed to us about that type of essay. Thank god, this essay only have 2 pattern. Miss zu said this problem-solution essay is the most easier. Then, we played a game. I'm group no 1 and we choose pattern no 2. Each group have different topics and my topics is stealing on open house.

But this time we need to put in text citation. We can use goggle to find the information. I'm doing introduction and Miss zu said at least has one in text citation in the introduction paragraph. I think this time much better because we are not rushing to do the essay. We also submit first. But I'm not sure whether my introduction is okay or not. Hopefully, everything will be fine. Up till here. Kbye !

Cause and effect essay.

Assalammualaikum.

Hye everyone! Today lesson is about cause and effect essay. Miss zu taught us more detail and we learnt all pattern of this essay. I preferred patern no 4 and 5 because it just focus on causes or effect. After Miss zu explained one by one about the pattern, then we played a game. 

I'm group no 2, so my block pattern is also no 2. Each group was given a different topics. My topics is about  disabled child. At first, I don't understand what actually the meaning of the video. Then, Miss zu explained. Actually, the video is about what is the effect of having disabled child in family. Each person need to do one paragraph. we need to do it in 40 minute and then submit the soft copy. 

Frankly speaking, I really feel stress because we need to think fast. I'm pretty sure my sentences structure is worse as well as my grammar.  But, during that time I don't care at all, the most important thing is we submit the soft copy to Miss zu before 6 pm. 

Inferences.

Assalammualaikum.

Today we have learn about inferences. Inferences is what you read between the lines or the author want you, as a reader to guess what actually he/she mean.

When we read something our inside voices will

• make guesses
• find connecting point
• ask question
• make prediction
• personalize the reading 
• uses background knowledge to interpret.

To make the students understand, Miss Zu have create a game. The game is call, "who kill Mr. Boddy?" . So, we need to guess and make prediction or assumption based on the clues that Miss zu gave. I think my classmates don't understand how to played the game. That's why only Wasim solved the problem.

Then, we played another game. We have been divided into 5 group and my member is Wawa and Ana. This time also we need to guess. Miss zu was played the video clip of Toy story3, Walk to remember and Grenade by Bruno Mars. Frankly speaking, I really don't like to watch cartoon especially these type of cartoon such as Toy story, Cars, Madagascar, Ice age and Kung Fu Panda. 

I don't know why. When the video was played I can't catch up what they said. I feel like "OMG ! what are you talking about? ". I feel so shamed because our assumption is not accurate at all. haha But it's okay i'm not going to give up. For Walk to remember video , my group only get 0.5 mark. So pity . I'm sorry I can't give the best for my group.  Up till here, kbye ;)

Last day for outlining.

Today is the last day for us to finished our outline. The best part is Diba and I have finished the outline. Ho yeahhh ! But, I'm still not satisfied because I think my format was wrong. We still repaired it until the last. I'm also asked a helped from Ika.Thank god she helped us. 

For those who have done the outline have to check others group outline. So, Sara and I was changed our outline to checked . I think Sara and Pika outline was very good and I don't know what to comment. That's all we done until the class dismissed.

Today we are still focused on outline. We had finished the outline only conclusion not done yet. We have repair the outline yesterday so that it will become better. Miss Zu still checked other people outline, she want us do the best. I think so because she taught us alot of things and correct our mistake. Miss Zu said tomorrow is the last day for us to asked her question about the outline term paper and I need finished my outline today ! okay bye .

I really love monday because our Bel class was very near my college. So, today Miss Zu said she want to check our outline term paper. Diba and I have done our outline during weekend but it still not fully complete yet. Miss Zu said we are going to focus and finish the outline by this week. We need to submit on Thursday.

Miss Zu had check our outline but as usual there are still mistake here and there. She want us to paraphrasing, summarising and doing citation to the point. I think it is not that easy because I'm really bad in paraphrasing. Okay, whatever it is I still need to finish the outline term paper this mid sem break.

Assalammualaikum.

Today only 2 partner will present their thesis statement which is Ita and Asnawi. when Asnawi and Asyraf present their thesis statement, Miss Zu was very angry because the thesis statement was wrong. Miss Zu also angry with all of us because when she asked a question we were not answered it. Miss was asking who will helped to correct their thesis statement and everyone was keep quiet.

Actually, I want to help them but I'm not sure whether my answer is correct or not. I'm also scared if Miss Zu get angry becausee of my answered. So, I'm just keep quiet and not even try to help them. At last, Miss Zu who are the one that helped to correct the thesis statement. 

Then, we proceed with the introduction. Miss Zu was checked our introduction one by one. I feel so nervous because my introduction very simple and we just use one hook only. I'm afraid that Miss Zu will reject our introduction. So, Diba and I make a new introduction with 2 hook which is statistic and rheotorical question. I hope she will approve it.

Before the class dismissed, Miss Zu want us to make an outlining. She want us to be independent and do the outlining without she need to correct it because she so tired to correct our mistakes. She also give us the example as a reference. Hope we all can do it. Insyaallah :)

Assalammualaikum.

As soon as I entered the class, I can feel that Miss Zu was in a bad mood. The class was start with the presentation of other group. At first,Miss Zu was getting mad because of our sentence structure again. "Your grammar is suck!" Miss Zu said to all of us. Yes we admit that because Miss Zu still need to correct our grammatical error and sentence structure.

After argumentative essay group present, Miss Zu was not angry anymore because she said their thesis statement had been improved. I'm glad to hear that. All of their thesis statement had been approved by Miss Zu. There are only two group that Miss Zu rejected and another one group have not present it yet. After this we are going to do outlining and I hope all of us can do it.

This is my thesis statement that had been approved by Miss Zu :

"When trying to decide which methods offers the best deals between online shopping and traditional shopping, the shopper should consider several aspect that present the best service. Some of these aspect include the variety of items, the convenience offered and the type of products."

Assalammualaikum.

Today Miss Zu were not entered the class. So, Miss Zu want us to do discussion about thesis statement  at the library. I need to help wasim and Izat for their thesis statement because we are doing the same type of essay. I'm just told him what should he do and asked him to followed the example from textbook. We are very lucky because our type of essay had an example for thesis statement from the textbook.So, it's quite easy.

I'm also helped Ika and Fatin to do their thesis statement. I'm not that good, but I try to helped them. Hopefully Miss Zu will approve it. That's all bye !

Presentation for thesis statement& introduction.

Assalammualaikum.

Today we are going to present a thesis statement and introduction. The first partner that present is Faiz adha and Fikri. We all are scared to do presentation because Miss Zu said, she will crush our heart. Miss Zu was complained about their thesis statement and she was reject it

After Faiz and Fikri present, Miss Zu want them to called a name. The second partner is Salihin and Faiz, their topics about corruption. Their introduction was so long. It's make me more nervous because my thesis statement is short and simple. But, Miss Zu was very angry at them because she know straight away that Salihin and Faiz just copied from their material. However, their thesis statement was good and just need to change a little bit. So, their thesis statement was accepted.

The third partner should be Acap and Nawi, but they still not done with their thesis statement. So, the next partner is Kima, Izani and Pika. And again Miss Zu getting mad because they also do plagiarism. After that, Fatin and Ika present. Miss Zu also rejected their thesis statement because their thesis statement is not like she expecting. Then its my turn. Thank god Miss Zu was accepted our thesis statement. Yeayy! Diba and I was so happy. We thought Miss Zu will get angry because our thesis statement was too simple. But we are wrong, because she said our thesis statement is good and there is no grammatical error. hehe *give an applause.*

Then, Bariah and Inayah present and follow by Nina and Wawa. Both of their thesis statement have been accepted. Actually, Miss Zu more focus on thesis statement. So,I think we should do a good thesis statement  first. That's all I want to share with you all. Tomorrow Miss Zu do not enter the class and yet we still need to go library for doing blogging.

Introductory paragraph.

Assalammualaikum.

Today our lesson was continued from yesterday which is introductory paragaraph. Miss Zu was explained on how to make our introduction become interesting for the readers. The part of introductory paragraph should have 

• The hook - designed to grab attention of the readers immediately.
• The transition- moves the readers from the hook to the driving force of the essay.
• Thesis statement- main ideas of the whole paragraph.

We must follow this step to make sure your introduction is clear and interesting. Besides, there are seven type of hook that we can used to make an introduction which is

• Personal example/observation
• quotation
• Facts/ statistic
• Rhetorical question
• current events 
• contrast to the thesis statement
• Definition

So, to make an introduction you must write the hook first and then the transition. Lastly, you must write the thesis statement. You also can put more than one hook to the introduction to catch the attention of your readers. I think it will much better. Up till here my friends. Bye !

Thesis statement for the outlining.

Assalammualaikum.

I just don't want to delay my work, so everytime I had a class bel I will update blog. It's going to be very busy since this month I will have a test and also a lot of assignment. So, don't procrastinate ! Okay, back to the topics today our lesson about how to write thesis statement for outlining.

Miss Zu was explained to us how to identified and write thesis statement. She was explained one by one based on type of essay. My type of essay is compare and contrast, so we pay attention during the lecture. Eventhough, my type of essay compare-contrast, I still need to know other type of essay. This to make sure, during examination everyone can answer correctly because we don't know what type of essay will come out.

For compare-contrast essay, there are 2 example that we can use.

EXAMPLE 1

 Introduction stating the thesis statement:

Public universities and private universities are different in term of the type of courses offered and the course fees charged but are similar in term of the nature of competitiveness.

supporting point 1, with topic sentence:

type of courses

supporting point 2, with topic sentence:

course fees

supporting point 3, with topic sentence:

nature of competitiveness

Conclusion summarising the main idea or restating the thesis statement:

In conclusion, it falls upon the student to compare the similarities and differences between public universitiy and a private universitiy before deciding which one to go.

EXAMPLE 2

Introduction stating the thesis statement:

When trying to decide where to dine, either at local restaurant or Western restaurant, patrons should consider several aspect that concern these dining places.Some of these aspect include the food selection, the service provided and the ambience of each restaurant.

supporting point 3, with topic sentence:

Conclusion summarising the main idea or restating the thesis statement:

Thus, in order to decide whether to dine at at a local restaurant or at a Western restaurant factors such as the food selection, the service provided and the ambience of the restaurant should be taken into consideration.

Miss Zu want us to write a thesis statement based on these 2 example and we are going to present next week on tuesday. Monday we don't have a class because Miss Zu are going to invigilate an examination for degree students. So, we have a lot of time to do the thesis statement. But, Miss Zu said, "more times means more pressure". Hope we can do better and Miss Zu not reject our thesis statement. Good luck friends! bye :)

Debate contest.

Assalammualaikum.

"Is it consider cheating when your partner (girlfriend/ boyfriend/ husband/ wife) was checking on other beautiful girls/ boys/ men / women on facebook like poking, liking and etc."

That was our title for debate today. Today Miss Zu want to do speaking practice, that's why she held a debate contest. Firstly, we were divided into 4 group and I was in a group 2. My members is Fikri, Wasim, Syafiqah, Hani, Kima and Nadia Salehin. Our group is opponent, whereas group 1 is government.

This is a few of our point :

• As a medium for a social networking. Nowadays, everyone has a social networking like facebook, twitter or Instagram. It is just a medium for us to make a new friend or even to keep in touch with our friend. So, we should become open minded.
• To contact with old friend and family that live far. In my opinion, it is not consider cheating if we are contact with our old friend or family that live far away to know their latest news.
• For run a business or event. For example, when a married person spend their time on facebook it doesn't means that they are cheating or flirting with other men/ women. Maybe, they run their business through facebook or to informed other people about their event.
• Poke, like and comment button. The button is already there on the facebook page. What is the purpose doing the button if we are not use it.
• a statement that are funny or interesting. Some people like or comment their status because they think it's funny or interesting. Not because of other intention.
• Relationship is based on trust. If we are trust and honest with each other, they will be no problem. 
• depends on our body language or intention.

In conclusion, Facebook is just a medium for a social networking. It's depends on our intention whether to use facebook page as medium to make a new friend, to run a business or just used facebook to cheat or flirt on girls/boys.

The title for group 3 and 4 is: 

"Is it true that men are easy to work with and more creative than women especially when it involves group work?"

The government side said men are easy to work with and more creative than women in give an idea. Men also has stated in al-Quran that there are the leaders.

Whereas, opponent side said women are systematic, carefully and perfectly in doing their work. Women also  has become success than men. For example, Tan Sri Zety Aziz the leader of Bank Negara.

After done with debate contest, Miss Zu want us to decide which group is the winner and the best debator. The winner is my group. But, the best debator is Faiz Adha from group 1. While for group 3 and 4 they are no winner because the point is equal. The best debator is Rozita from opponent side. That's all our lesson for today. Bye !

Today we are only doing blogging. As usual every wednesday is time for Miss Zu to check our blog. I had done my entry for yesterday, so there is no much work for me to do. After miss Zu check my blog, then I edit a few part that needed to add up some information. Today Miss Zu want us to comment our friend blog. But, we must comment something that contrasting, not to critics or make them feel down. We must motivated them to write better. Facts and opinion.

Assalammualaikum.

Today Miss Zu want to check our blog whether  we are doing the correct things or not. Miss Zu was choose Nadia's blog. She was not satisfied with Nadia's blog because it's too short and the content was not like she expecting. Actually, we should written in blog whatever activity and lesson that we had learnt. We should put  picture, link or even a video.

Then Miss Zu continued with lesson today. We learnt about facts and opinion. I think fact and opinion is much easier. Fact is a specific detail that can be proven as true based on objective evidence. Whereas, Opinion is a feeling of judgement, belief or conclusion that cannot be proven true by evidence.

• can verified
• presented with unbiased word

example :

• More women are deciding to give birth at home rather than giving birth in hospitals.
• Jenny is a girl with blue eyes and blonde hair.

Opinion :

• subjective
• interprets reality
• cannot be verified
• presented with value word

example :

•  I believe hospitals are the best places for giving birth./I don't think a hospital is the best place to give birth.
•  Jenny is pretty/ Jenny is ugly

We can also identified the opinion by the biased word. For example better, awful, disgusting, greater, best and so on is an example for biased words. After Miss zu explained and we done a few exercises, then we played a game. My group is number 2 and my members is Izat, Inayah, Nadia and Pika. We need to sell a product. Our product is beauty cream which is Safi Balqis Perfect 10. We need to come out with 5 statement whether it's fact or opinion. Then, our classmates need to guess how much is fact and opinion. Our group only score 2 mark. It was fun and I really enjoyed it because it's not boring.
